KPMG in the U.S.

Bharat is a Principal in KPMG’s Advisory Services practice with 25 years of experience using data analytics for clinical, financial, regulatory and operational improvement for health care and life sciences (HCLS) organizations. He is a leading expert in health analytics, big data, machine learning and personalized medicine. He is the recipient of multiple innovation awards, including the highest lifetime award in data analytics, and is a frequent speaker and published author (100+ publications, 62 patents, one book).

Professional and industry experience

Prior to joining KPMG, Bharat served in various leadership positions within a large multi-national engineering and electronics conglomerate, including General Manager of the Healthcare Analytics and Business Intelligence Group and as Leader of the Health Services Center for Innovations. He also led the HCLS anti-corruption analytics practice at a Big Four firm, focusing on the use of advanced analytics to detect and prevent fraud, waste, and abuse. Selected engagements include:

  • Reference-Data Analytics: Analyzing the KPMG National Claims Database (longitudinal claims for 160M patients over 5 years) for healthcare providers and medical device clients to conduct various analyses including “Total Cost of Care,” Market Share, Volume Leakage, variations in practice/outcomes, and machine learning to identify factors that potentially impact poor outcomes.
  • EHR Analytics: Analyzed structured and unstructured data from millions of EHRs to help hospitals measure quality of care, and qualify for ACA health reform incentives. Successfully deployed solution at 200+ US hospitals as a software product and a cloud SaaS offering.
  • Population Analytics/BI: Developed predictive models to identify variations in care that impact costs and outcomes for acute and chronic conditions across millions of patients.
  • Research: Led research collaborations with 30+ luminary sites and AMCs worldwide.
  • Clinical Decision Support: Developed CAD analytics solutions to help radiologists detect medical abnormalities in images. Deployed and used daily at thousands of hospitals.
  • Data Infrastructure/Security: Successfully led international consortium to build first US-Euro IT research network for secure data sharing across cancer centers in 5 countries.
