As part of our pledge to support Education initiatives, KPMG funding is available to organisations involved in literacy, early childhood development, cradle-to-career initiatives and programmes that tackle systemic challenges in the education ecosystem. Literacy: Contributing towards improving reading ability levels amongst young South Africans in order to stimulate reading for meaning, understanding text and are able to express themselves effectively. Early Childhood Development (ECD): Contributing towards building a strong foundation for the ongoing education of young children in South Africa by supporting their development and training. Cradle to Career: Contributing towards activities that consider the full educational journey of a learner; from early childhood to career, in order to ensure that there is no leakage in the educational investment and benefits to the learner. Systemic change: Contributing towards the development of productive and sustainable education ecosystems by taking a holistic and multi-faceted approach to education investment. This funding will look to address capacity challenges and systemic inhibitors to the achievement of successful outcomes for learners.
KPMG will evaluate each application against the criteria below.
The project/ organisational activities show clear socio-economic development impact on direct & indirect beneficiaries i.e. in particular socially excluded groups incl disadvantaged communities, women and children, youth and disabled persons.
Preference will be given to interventions that are targeted at rural communities.
||The project/ organisation has a strong focus on initiatives that stimulate or sustain activity contributing to South Africa’s Development priorities.
|Inclusiveness||The project/ organisational activities are participatory in nature and intentional on creating social value for a wide range of beneficiaries.
|Catalytic Change||The project/ organisational activities serve as a catalyst in a developmental area that is underfunded or that which receives inadequate support, e.g. rural education. The multiplier impact of such project/organizational activities is substantial.|
|Value for Money||Project/ organisational activities show good economy, efficiency and effectiveness gains.|

|Commercial and technical feasibility||The activities proposed by the project/ organisation can be achieved against the costs (budget) proposed. If not, there is evidence of other funding support being secured.|
|Geographical Focus||The project/ organisational activities show clear alignment with KPMG’s preferred geographic areas i.e. rural and peri-urban.|
|Legal Entity||The organisation is suitably registred as not operation for profit e.g. NPC|
|Tax Compliant||The organisation is tax compliant and is registered adequately for Tax purposes.|
|Capacity||The organisation is able to demonstrate capacity to implement the grant against specified project/ organisation activities i.e. sufficiency of processes, systems and people.
|Governance||Clear, functional and sound governance structures are in place i.e. Board/ Governance structure, control environment – tone at the top, key policies and controls.
|Financial Management||The organisation is able to demonstrate sound financial management e.g. proper records of financial management and tracking income vs spend.|
