The South African film industry has grown significantly over the past few years. Foreign film makers are drawn by South Africa’s unique and diverse locations, as well as lower production costs and a favorable exchange rate. There has also been a dramatic increase inlocal feature films. On 12 August 2014, the Minister of Trade and Industry announced that the number of productions shot and produced in South Africa since 2008 grew from 49 to 398. Of the 398 projects, 256 were South African productions, 77 co-productions and 65 foreign productions, which in total led to the generation of total qualifying South African production expenditure of R8 billion.
