KPMG in South Africa
Peter is the senior life actuary at KPMG in South Africa and has over 13 years’ advisory and audit assist experience at KPMG in South Africa. He joined the firm in 2003 when a local actuarial capability was established. At KPMG Peter’s primary area of involvement is assisting KPMG audit and advisory teams with the actuarial aspects of life insurance accounts and embedded value calculations. He is also involved in actuarial aspects of non-life insurance, medical scheme and retirement fund accounts; review and calculation of IAS19 obligations and Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS) verifications. Prior to joining KPMG Peter was exposed to investment administration and operational risk management, pension fund valuation and consulting, and a wide range of life insurance experience including representing his employer on the board of directors of some subsidiary insurance companies in the Southern African region. Peter is the President Elect of the Actuarial Society of South Africa (ASSA) and a member of the Life Assurance Committee of ASSA and the Long Term Insurance Interest Group of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA). He represents ASSA on the Insurance Accounting Committee of International Actuarial Association.
