KPMG in South Africa
Yasmeen completed one year of academic articles at the University of Natal, before completing her articles at KPMG. She joined KPMG’s tax department for a short period, before leaving to work at SARS. Yasmeen spent 6 years at SARS, as an integrated field auditor, which required experience and knowledge of multiple tax types. She worked on a wide range of clients, from individuals, trusts, public benefit organisations, private companies and listed companies. While at SARS she gained experience in a range of different industries including retail, wholesale, food processing, finance, manufacture and farming. Yasmeen rejoined KPMG in 2008 and now heads up the Tax practice in the KZN region where she has also worked on a wide range of international and local clients, who operate in various industries. She is the vice chairman of the Tax Committee of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants in the Eastern Region and had been co-opted as a member of the Steering Committee on Islamic Financial Services at National Treasury. Yasmeen also writes tax articles for several media publications and tax journals, and has made presentations to National Treasury on the South African tax issues related to Islamic financial products.
