KPMG in South Africa
John Geel is the Managing Director of Deal Advisory for KPMG in South Africa. While he takes responsibility for the entire Deal Advisory Department, John is primarily involved in Mergers and Acquisitions and Valuations activity. John is actively involved in all of the sales processes, acquisition and disposal mandates (this includes confidential approaches, target searches, divestitures, etc.), negotiation support, business valuations, structuring of transactions and deal closure, regulatory advisory, etc. He joined KPMG in 1988 and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1990. John was seconded to KPMG London from 1991 to 1993. He returned to KPMG in Johannesburg, Corporate Finance in 1994. He was made a partner in 1996. John was appointed as the Managing Director of the Corporate Finance Business from 1 March 2005 and of the Transactions & Restructuring Division (which incorporates the Corporate Finance, Transaction Services, Corporate Recovery and Corporate Restructuring service lines) in September 2008. He has undertaken numerous assignments, including M&A assignments, sales process assignments, divestitures, valuation assignments, fairness opinions and BEE related transactions.
