KPMG in South Africa
Gavin joined KPMG in 1984 as an audit clerk and qualified as a Chartered Accountant (SA) in 1989 where after he remained in audit until 1994 during which period he was responsible for a portfolio of audit clients. During 1994 Gavin joined the Corporate Recovery Department and was appointed as Partner to KPMG in 1996. In 1997 Gavin was appointed managing partner of KPMG Corporate Recovery which position he still holds to date. Gavin has over approximately 20 years been involved with a number of distressed companies in the way of liquidations, receiverships, offers of compromise, receiverships and informal workout restructuring. Vast experience and know how was gained in the management of distressed entities, which in a large number of cases resulted in the successful turnaround or sale on a going concern basis of the entities. Since commencement of the new Companies Act and the Business rescue regime, Gavin has been appointed as Business Rescue Practitioner in various matters.
