KPMG in South Africa
Schalk is responsible for KPMG’s Ethics Advisory Service Line in South Africa. The service line assists organisations in creating ethical organisational cultures (the first priority in governance) through ethics culture surveys, the development of Codes of Ethics, Ethics Training, and assistance in establishing ethics capacity and structures within organisations.
Prior to joining KPMG in 2010 he was a lecturer at the Universities of Stellenbosch and North-West (Potchefstroom), where he lectured various courses on Philosophy, Ethics and Business Ethics. He has presented in various forums, including the South Africa Human Rights Commission, the Finance Indaba and the Institute of Internal Auditors.
Schalk is the author of various publications including "Radical Business Ethics" in Business Ethics: A European Review and a chapter in Business Ethics, a prescribed textbook in South African universities (forthcoming). He is the editor of the African Journal of Business Ethics, a research associate with the Centre for Applied Ethics (Stellenbosch University) and lectures business ethics for MBA students at Stellenbosch Business School.
