KPMG in South Africa
Gerdus has been a partner at KPMG since 2001 where he is responsible for the insurance specialist department within the South Africa Financial Services Group. Other than his audit roles, he also leads advisory projects at major insurers. During his 23 year career with the firm he has performed numerous regulatory investigations, business turn-around performance reviews as well as regulatory applications for new insurance licenses. Gerdus often acts as lead or relationship partner across the African continent for due diligence and/or valuation assignments for transactions involving insurance entities. He also forms part of the editorial team of KPMG’s annual South African insurance survey. Gerdus represents KPMG’s Africa practices at the global firms’ insurance topic team which provides guidance within KPMG on IFRS implementation issues for insurers. In addition, he is deputy chairman of SAICA’s short-term insurance interest group and chairman of the long-term insurance interest group.
