The introduction of the Global Skills Strategy on June 12, 2017, provides Canadian employers a key advantage in the global talent marketplace.1  In particular, it created the Global Talent Stream, which is intended to offer a facilitative Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) application process.  In light of the many immigration tools available, employers must be strategic in assessing the specific advantages between the Global Talent Stream and other LMIA-exempt alternatives, while taking into account the respective compliance liabilities.  The Global Talent Stream may not be appropriate for all employers in all situations.

The KPMG International member firm in Canada is offering a Webinar on June 27, 2017, to provide updates on:

  • how well the Global Skills Strategy is working at various Visa offices globally and at the ports of entry, and
  • the initial decisions made by Service Canada.

Employers must evaluate the appropriate strategy for processing Canadian work permit applications for foreign workers in various sectors and specialized circumstances.  There are numerous categories for immigration processing, each with its own requirements, policies, and various compliance issues which impact employers’ decisions.  The Global Skills Strategy introduced specific benefits and advantages vis-à-vis other immigration categories and programs.
