Romania: VAT registration changes

Changes are made to the value added tax (VAT) registration procedure in Romania.

Order no. 605 (published in the official journal on 1 February 2017) includes the following changes to the VAT registration procedure:

  • A request for registration for VAT purposes must be submitted by legal entities that are set up in accordance with Company Law (no. 31 /1990) and that are required to be registered with the Romanian Trade Registry, but not by branches of non-resident taxpayers.
  • Newly established entities must submit a request for VAT registration on the same day as the request for registration is filed with the Romanian Trade Registry.
