Tax regularization program offers limited amnesty

Provisional Measure 766 was issued 4 January 2017, and published the following day, to introduce a tax regularization payment program that provides Brazilian taxpayers with an opportunity to settle their federal tax debts.

The program does not provide for amnesty of penalties or interest, but does allow taxpayers to resolve their federal tax debts in installment payments. The program also allows the partial settlement of tax debts with the use of tax credits and/or the use of tax loss carryforwards. 

Debts that are eligible to be settled can be tax or non-tax related, if past due by 30 November 2016.
