The Swiss Federal Council on 23 November 2016 adopted an ordinance for the automatic exchange of information (AEOI) in tax matters. The ordinance provides rules for implementing the AEOI measures. The effective date of the ordinance is 1 January 2017.
The measures include information relating to non-reporting financial institutions and exempt accounts, as well as details with regards to the reporting and due diligence requirements of Swiss reporting financial institutions. The ordinance sets forth the process for the automatic exchange of information, and establishes the role of the Swiss federal tax authorities in administering the AEOI.
