Myanmar: Foreign investment expansion

Myanmar has expanded the types of goods that can be imported for joint ventures between Myanmar companies and foreign investors.

The Ministry of Trade and Commerce issued notification 56/2016 (7 July 2016) that adds imports of construction materials to the list of goods that can be imported and sold by joint ventures between Myanmar companies and foreign investors.

The Ministry of Trade and Commerce previously issued guidance that expanded the types of goods that can be imported with respect to joint ventures between Myanmar companies and foreign investors to include fertilizer, seeds, herbicides, and medical equipment. Before that, only motor vehicles were allowed to be imported by these joint ventures.
