The EU’s new customs code—the Union Customs Code—will be effective beginning 1 May 2016. The Italian customs agency has issued operating instructions and procedures with respect to implementing the Union Customs Code in Italy.
The guidance issued by the Italian customs agency is Circular 8/D (47577/RU) and Note 45898/RU. These guidance items provide statements of practice concerning ways in which the new Union Customs Code differs from its predecessor, the Community Customs Code. In particular, many procedures have been computerized, and customs control systems have been simplified.
