Vietnam: Rules for representative offices, branches; new accounting law measures

Changes have been made to the rules governing representative offices and branches of foreign entities doing business in Vietnam.

The changes were made in a decree issued in late January 2016, and seem to reflect a narrowed scope of operations for representative offices of foreign businesses in Vietnam. The new rules are effective 10 March 2016.

Accounting law changes

A new law on accounting changes will be effective 1 January 2017. The new law introduces a fair value accounting principle, supplements the “substance over form” accounting principle, includes rules on accounting for currency and exchange rates, and sets forth measures on accounting inspections and the provision of accounting services.
