Canada Department of National Defence (DND)

Canada’s DND has prioritized the deployment of business intelligence tools, with its Strategic Planning and Operations Analytics initiative covering more than 20 enterprise and legacy data systems. These are used for departmental analysis of budget and capability, to allow the DND and government to measure and monitor the impact of budget and organizational change.

US Army Enterprise Systems Integration Program (AESIP)

This program has implemented Enterprise Management Decision Support (EMDS). This sits across 3000-plus systems to achieve Army operational readiness in real- and near-real–time, with database access leading to better understanding and analysis of the battleground. Analytics are generated on top of existing ERP ‘vertical stacks’ (combining computing, networking, storage and management), which analyze transactional data in real time, and present findings to commanders on a dashboard. According to Terry Halvorsen, Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the US Department of Defense, the organization is beginning to appreciate the full power of its data. Halvorsen takes a bottom-up approach to ERP, continually going back to the data users to understand what the systems need to offer1.

UK Ministry of Defence (UKMOD)

The UKMOD has developed an analytics capability for forensic analysis and investigation of conduct, crimes and behaviors in Iraq (under the Iraq Historic Allegations Team (IHAT)).
