A “simplified” method with respect to ICMS-ST reimbursement has been provided for taxpayers in São Paulo.

The ICMS—Imposto sobre Circulação de Mercadorias e Serviços—is a state-level sales tax imposed on the physical movement of merchandise. The ICMS is also levied on certain inter-state and inter-municipal services.

The new guidance—Portaria CAT nº 158/2005 (published in the official gazette on 29 December 2015)—establishes a simplified ICMS-ST reimbursement method, which is available for qualifying transactions occurring on or after 1 January 2016.
