The IRS today issued a release concerning the application period for “qualified intermediary” (QI), “withholding foreign partnership” (WP), and “withholding foreign trust” (WT) status.

The IRS release [PDF 47 KB] states that:

  • Applications for QI, WP, and WT status will be processed throughout 2015.
  • QI status will be effective the later of the assignment of (1) the GIIN; or (2) QI EIN.
  • Applicants who need QI status, WP status, or WT status for the remainder of 2015 need to make certain that their applications are received by December 18, 2015.
