FATCA: New FAQs, new enrollment process under IDES

The IRS today released a FATCA news alert, no. 2015-19, concerning the International Data Exchange Services (IDES) system.

  • New FATCA IDES Technical FAQs have been added and/or updated, with the new items focused on issues such as data preparation, alerts, testing, and security. The new items are marked with a notation, in red font: “Added: 05-08-15”.
  • A new FATCA IDES enrollment process is available for withholding agents, territory financial institutions, and third-party preparers.
  • The extended deadline for reporting with respect to calendar year 2014 is June 29, 2015, to submit Form 8966, FATCA XML Schema. Registration for a FATCA Identification Number (FIN) is May 20, 2015, in order for the FIN to appear on the June foreign financial institution list and to allow for enrollment in the IDES ahead of the June 29 deadline.
