Workforce Strategy Audit Survey Report

The report by the Corporate Research Forum in conjunction with KPMG on strategic workforce planning indicates that there is substantial room for improvement in this area by businesses.

UK businesses are not planning for how to manage and deploy human capital, according to a poll conducted by the Corporate Research Forum, the membership network for organisations looking to develop their people strategy and in conjunction with KPMG.

Key highlights include

  • Organisations lack an in-depth understanding of what a workforce strategy actually is and how it links to the business strategy.
  • Only 15% of organisations have a clear link between the business strategic plan and the workforce plan.
  • Organisations adopt a piecemeal approach to Strategic Workforce Planning rather than ‘whole workforce’ approach, which includes the contingent workforce.
  • Organisations tend to be reactive rather than proactive.
  • Only 27% felt they have a structured and effective process for developing their workforce strategy / plan.

Poor planning can make it difficult to adapt to changing market conditions, as well as to retain talent in competitive industries. The ability to forecast skills requirements and to pre-empt workforce risks and deploy resources efficiently, will underpin financial success for organisations in future.
