KPMG has created The Green Tax Index to increase awareness of the complex, fragmented and rapidly evolving green tax landscape worldwide. It aims to encourage companies to explore the opportunities of green tax incentives, and to reduce exposure to green tax penalties.
Governments worldwide are increasingly using tax as a tool to address environmental and social challenges. As a result, the global green tax landscape, in the form of both incentives and penalties, is evolving rapidly and becoming more complex.
However, there is evidence to suggest that not all corporate tax teams are fully aware of the landscape of green tax in which they operate and the incentives that may be on offer.
The KPMG Green Tax Index seeks to increase awareness of the green tax landscape worldwide and to encourage companies to explore the opportunities of green tax incentives, and to reduce exposure to green tax penalties.
It analyzes the green tax policies of 21 countries worldwide and identifies those most active in using tax to drive corporate sustainability and achieve green policy goals.
