Having graduated in Economics, Stephen joined Arthur Andersen’s Manchester office in 1980, qualifying in 1983. In 1988 he joined the newly formed corporate finance group and was appointed partner in 1993, at which point he was recruited by KPMG to lead their East Midlands Corporate Finance practice. In 1999 he transferred to KPMG’s Birmingham office to lead their private equity activities in the Midlands region, subsequently becoming Managing Partner for the corporate finance business. During his 22 year career in corporate finance, Stephen has advised on a wide range of projects, including corporate disposals, management buy-outs, IBOs, refinancings and secondary buy-outs. Stephen has won a number of awards, including nationally the Sunday Times Rainmaker of the Year award in 2001 and 2002, Business Insider Dealmaker award for top corporate finance adviser in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2009. Stephen is Head of Corporate Finance in KPMG’s Midlands region and his recent transaction experience includes leading the sale of Premier Bathrooms to ECI Partners for approximately £150 million, the sale of Alstec to Babcock International for £56 million, the sale of Electrium to Siemens for approximately £100 million and the sale of Unity Brands to LDC for approximately £60 million. Stephen has also recently completed the sale of Claimar plc to Housing 21 for approximately £40 million.
