Working Mother compiles this list based on its assessment of companies’ commitment to recruitment, advancement, and retention programs; hiring, attrition, and promotions; and company culture – all areas that KPMG once again scored highly.

“This honor is a great reflection of our inclusive programs, culture, and recruiting efforts that make up the table stakes of our business,” said Sue Townsen, KPMG’s Chief Diversity Officer. “To say that this year’s top 25 companies have 22% of their workforces comprised of multicultural women is both a testament to increasing diversity, but also a stark reminder of the work to be done.”

KPMG has several significant programs focused on the development needs of its diverse professionals:

  • Diversity networks (Hispanic/Latino Network, African-American Network, Asian Pacific Islander Network, and more) that focus on creating an inclusive culture, skill development, and giving back to the community.
  • KPMG’s Leadership Insights Summit and Leadership Development Series, which focuses on the development, advancement and retention of high-potential, high-performing African-American, Hispanic and Latino, and Asian Pacific Islander professionals.
  • Mentoring and career counseling through direct managers, in addition to formal and informal mentoring relationships.
  • Recruiting teams -- which cover both campus and experienced hires -- place considerable emphasis on recruiting a diverse workforce, and strive to continually increase the pool of qualified diverse candidates.

Subha V. Barry, senior vice president & managing director, Working Mother Media, says, “Since its inception, the Best Companies for Multicultural Women has grown from just three qualifying companies to 25 winners who have created forward-thinking policies and initiatives that have grown the talent and expertise of multicultural women. We applaud our winners who create opportunity for multicultural women to be hired, trained and advanced in the workforce.”

The Working Mother Research Institute has conducted the study since 2003, tracking corporations’ progress in promoting women of color and evaluating their representation at every level of management and decision-making.
