Parliament signed amendments to excise duty law

Parliament signed amendments to excise duty law

The Parliament signed amendments to the excise duty law that include the following provisions:

  • Starting from 2023, there will be a gradual phasing out of fossil fuel benefits and subsidies applied to gasoil, coal, coke, lignite, diesel, liquefied petroleum gas in cylinders, and excise tax rates will be consistently increased.
  • Reduced rates will still apply for green diesel used in agricultural machinery and natural gas used for heating.
  • Peat used for heating will also be subject to excise taxation.
  • Starting from 2025, excise duties for energy products will include a carbon dioxide component based on the CO2 emissions of the type of fuel, which will increase proportionally each year.
