The IRS today released a transmittal message stating there is a 17 November 2017 deadline for filing applications for:

  • Qualified intermediary (QI), including qualified derivatives dealer (QDD) status
  • Withholding foreign partnership (WP) status
  • Withholding foreign trust (WT) status 

Today’s IRS release explains that to have an agreement in effect in 2017, applications must be submitted via the IRS system no later than 17 November 2017 to allow sufficient time for processing by year’s end. The IRS release also notes that applicants must have obtained a global intermediary identification number (GIIN) prior to submitting their applications, if needed.
