New KPMG and Forbes Insights Survey Audit 2025: The future is now

KPMG and Forbes Insights recently conducted a survey of CEOs, CFOs and other financial executives regarding their views of the future of audit in relationship to quality, insights and overall value. This report is a follow up to the survey, “Audit 2020: A focus on change” to show how new technologies and the “explosion” of data are changing the profession and how it impacts organizations moving forward.

Not surprising, the Audit 2025 survey findings found company management wants to hear more from the external auditor about financial and non-financial risks, and any forward-looking view of their industry and the marketplace.

Audit 2025 Key findings:

  • 47 percent of the respondents said they want the auditor to provide constructive challenges on issues that may have uncovered in their auditing work.
  • 67 percent of respondents said audits provide insights that lead to proactive quality assurance and regulatory compliance.
  • 52 percent of respondents said they are looking for a forward-trending view of their risk environment.
  • 43 percent of respondents said their audit offered a holistic view of the state and prospects of the organization.
