KPMG LLP and its Chairman and CEO John Veihmeyer were today recognized for their corporate responsibility leadership by Corporate Responsibility (CR) Magazine, which has named Veihmeyer one of its “Responsible CEO of the Year” award recipients.
“Corporate responsibility is integral to our business, and a foundation of our values and success as a firm,” said Veihmeyer. “This award is a testament to KPMG’s people, who make our firm what it is through their service to the communities in which we live and work. Our people have dedicated countless hours to our corporate citizenship, diversity and inclusion, and environmental sustainability programs and initiatives. I’m honored to accept this award on behalf of our people who do so much to bring that commitment to lifeand to be recognized alongside a group of leading CEOs and organizations that demonstrate a similar commitment.”
CR Magazine’s annual awards are presented to CEOs across industries whose organizations visibly exceed standards in the areas of employee relations, environmental impact, human rights, philanthropy, and corporate responsibility practices. The 2013 award recipients will be honored at itsResponsible CEO of the Year Awards Dinner taking place on Oct. 9 in New York.
In addition to KPMG’s Veihmeyer, the other recipients of the 2013 Responsible CEO of the Year award include:
One of KPMG’s top corporate responsibility programs is KPMG’s Family for Literacy (KFFL), which is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year. KFFL is dedicated to combating illiteracy and improving children’s education. Through this program, KPMG has distributed more than 2 million books to children in underprivileged communities.
Additionally, KPMG is consistently honored by leading diversity organizations for its efforts around diversity and inclusion. KPMG was once again named one of DiversityInc’s top 50 companies for diversity in 2013. And through KPMG’s Living Green program, the firm continues to reduce its carbon footprint, energy and water consumption, and non-recyclable waste.
Award recipients were nominated by fellow members of the corporate responsibility community and selected by an independent judging panel comprised of previous recipients and other industry leaders. In determining the recipients, judges considered several dimensions of the aforementioned standards including: the scope of the CEO’s impact on their organization and community, the extent to which the CEO drove this initiative, and the individual reputation or professional risk taken by the CEO.
"In a business landscape where transparency, sincerity and social impact are ever-important business goals, we are pleased to shine a spotlight on John Veihmeyer and KPMG in addition to other individuals and their organizations which exude a commitment to their stakeholders and society,” said Elliot Clark, CEO of SharedXpertise, the publisher of CR Magazine. “This recognition is a true reflection of the way these organizations conduct business every day.”
