In his new role, Doherty will be responsible for the design and execution of KPMG Advisory’s growth strategy and to enhance KPMG’s competitive position in the marketplace. He also will lead a team of partners heading up KPMG’s Advisory regional business units around the country.
Doherty assumed his new role on June 1, succeeding John Tesoro, who will be retiring in September after 10 years at KPMG.
“In an uncertain though dynamic economy, market development will play an increasingly significant role in continuing Advisory’s strong growth,” said Lynne Doughtie, KPMG vice chair and head of Advisory. “We are pleased to have someone of Dan’s skills and experience in this key position.”
Doherty brings a wealth of experience to this role, having served clients for more than 26 years in the life sciences, consumer products, retail and manufacturing sectors. For the last six years, Doherty has served as Advisory Partner in Charge for the Midwest.
A licensed CPA, Doherty has served clients on acquisitions and divestitures, merger integration, shared services, performance improvement and internal control projects and, early in his career, external audits. He joined KPMG from Arthur Andersen in Chicago after graduating from DePaul University.
Based in Chicago, Doherty is active in supporting the firm’s community activities, serving as a Trustee for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, as a Board member of the Big Shoulders Fund, Civic Consulting Alliance and De Paul University’s School of Accountancy.
