Professional and Industry Experience

Amit has worked extensively across several different industries including Diversified Industrials, CPG (including food and beverage), Consumer Electronics, Medical Equipment Manufacturing, and Energy (both Oil & Gas producers and well as oil field service providers). He has developed and implemented global supply chain and manufacturing strategies for these companies helping them optimize their global operations amid globalization and volatile demand patterns. Amit also helped companies develop flexible supply chain and manufacturing strategies to ensure continuity of supply of goods to their global customers in case of catastrophic events and as their supply base migrates across global locations.

$30B heavy equipment manufacturer:

  • Designed and led a business transformation initiative for the $3B Engines Division. Areas of transformation included site procurement, supply chain, manufacturing operations, and product engineering. The initiative is expected to increase the division’s profitability by 2-4% over 2-3 years
  • Developed a product complexity model to determine which products to retain, eliminate, and add to their platform. Built a model to understand the source of true costs and margins. Identified potential savings in excess of $100M
  • Led the implementation of a global supply strategy (including suppliers from low cost countries) through vendor-managed inventory. Designed a new global operating structure to reduce inventory costs while maintaining customer service levels
  • Developed a unique approach to business process optimization through simulation. Using “what-if” and scenario analyses, implemented optimal process (and associated organizational) structure. Identified annual savings over $5M, achieving 80% of this in the first year
  • Designed a cost reduction program for direct materials to drive 3-5% savings in direct material costs year over year

$4B global manufacturer and marketer of alcoholic beverages:

  • Led a global diagnostic spanning multiple operating companies to identify and prioritize critical and sustainable operations initiatives
  • Identified improvement opportunities in operations, processes, people, organization, and information technology. Recommended SKU rationalization techniques, customized supply chains for different types of customers, and cross-geography, cross-functional supply chain collaboration to better serve the needs of customers
  • Changes will drive estimated benefits in excess of $200MM in total inventory and other cost reductions resulting in significant improvement in client’s competitive position

$35B major package logistics company:

  • Developed a framework to improve product development capabilities and the associated time-to-market through standardization and modularization
  • Enabled and supported product-driven complexity reduction, new product development process effectiveness, systems simplification, and effective integration of acquired portfolios
  • Resulted in robust product management, increased speed-to-market, reduction in total costs and risks, as well as improved market competitiveness

Three different major oil field services clients (revenues $10B-20B):

  • Developed global manufacturing strategies
  • Recommended shutting down selected plants, opening new plants and moving production closer to their customers; mitigated future risk by improving manufacturing flexibility in their facilities
  • Up front strategy work and subsequent implementation delivered over $100M savings for each client

$300B global oil company:

  • Led the identification of competitive strategies for overall Drilling and Completion cost for shallow well drilling
  • Incorporated cross-industry best-in-class supply chain practices for business-unit supply chain
  • Defined cost drivers and prioritized cost reduction opportunities resulting in 30% reduction
