Ed is a Managing Director with KPMG’s Credit Risk group with 10+ years of experience and is actively working with institutions on transitioning from today’s incurred loss model to CECL. Ed has done extensive work with ASC 310 – 30 (formerly SOP 03-3), ASC 310-20 (FAS 91), ASC 310-10 (FAS 114), ASC 450-20 (FAS 5), unfunded loan commitments, data analysis and management, change management, disclosure reporting, and required documentation. Ed has extensive experience in the Allowance for Loan and Lease Losses (ALLL) process and consults with financial institutions and internal stakeholders on the ALLL process. Prior to joining KPMG, Ed worked with Sageworks, a leading provider of software-as-a-service solutions to financial institutions to solve credit risk management and ALLL challenges.

Professional and industry experience

  • Actively transitioning financial institutions from today’s incurred loss model for the ALLL to the newly released model CECL including dual filers also transitioning to IFRS9.
  • Assisted 100+ financial institutions with accurately interpreting and applying federal accounting guidance specifically focused on ALLL provisions and loan portfolio stress testing
  • Considered an ALLL industry expert with multiple published whitepapers and actively solicited for speaking engagements by multiple CPA firms, Credit Union roundtables, and Banking Conferences (15+ events in 2015).
  • Assessed and developed key model assumptions in credit risk and allowance for loan loss processes such as segmentation, look-back period, loss emergence period, quantitative and qualitative reserve frameworks, risk stratification, migration analysis and PD/LGD frameworks
  • Engaged directly with C-Suite and Key Risk Management professionals to significantly improve both the institution’s ALLL process and methodology.
  • Fluent in existing ALLL solution software with deep knowledge of strengths and weakness of each, even participating in the product strategy and development of the market’s most commonly used ALLL software solution – Sageworks’ ALLL.
