David joins the firm from London & Partners where he was Director of International Trade & Investment and a member of the Executive Board. He led a number of trade missions to key territories including China and India as part of the Mayor’s International Business Program on behalf of Boris Johnson and current Mayor Sadiq Khan.

David Slater joins a growing team of trade specialists at KPMG who advise businesses on how an overseas market strategy can support their growth ambitions. With an overseas footprint fast becoming a key feature of midmarket enterprises, David is working with businesses to understand where and how they should establish a base overseas and evaluate the benefits and risks of ‘going global’. David will also work with KPMG international member firms in supporting overseas organisations looking to invest in the UK and operate in conjunction with the firm’s Brexit team.

Commenting on his appointment, Kevin Smith, Chairman for KPMG’s London Region said:

“David has a fantastic track record in helping companies build growth through new markets. He also brings an amazing network of contacts in the trade arena both outbound and inbound to the UK and we are delighted to welcome him to KPMG. There is strong demand for the sort of knowledge and practical insight a seasoned trade expert brings to the table. His experience will be invaluable to our clients as we look to support the wider UK trade agenda.”

James Stewart, Head of the Brexit at KPMG added:

“Helping more businesses to export and expand into international markets will be vital as the UK augments its international trading credentials. We are already seeing more businesses come to us as they look to re-engineer their supply chains, and explore new trade corridors as we head towards Brexit. David will have an important role to play in helping our UK clients as they create a footing outside of Europe and our global clients looking to invest in the UK, which remains a hugely attractive market to overseas investors.”

David Slater’s previous roles include Deputy Head of EU Engagement at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Regional Director for UK Trade and Investment and Regional Director UKTI for the West Coast of the USA. KPMG has recently released an in depth 60 page Going global guide designed to help businesses explore, develop and manage their international expansion plans.
