Andrew Webster, Director in Local Government at KPMG, said: “Local authorities will be severely disappointed that there weren’t any promises for core funding support. The real elephant in the room is social care, which continues to struggle financially and has been overlooked again.

“The state of the care system is a pressing issue for our society today and so the lack of attention given to the sector in the Budget is worrying. In the absence of any new funding, wider and more fundamental reform is urgently needed to transform the way the country can sustainably and effectively care for vulnerable people.”
