It is with great sadness that KPMG confirms the death of Giles Williams, one of its most well-known financial services partners and eminent expert in financial regulation.
Simon Collins, UK Chairman of KPMG, commented:
“Giles was a much loved partner, colleague and friend, with a sharp mind and an equally sharp and dry sense of humour. As one of the world’s leading experts on financial services regulation, Giles was a ‘go to’ adviser for the major financial institutions, regulators and governments. Giles’ knowledge was in great demand following the wave of financial regulation triggered by the 2008 financial crash and again following the UK’s vote to leave the EU. Giles was due to appear before an All Party Parliamentary Group at the House of Commons; the first in a series of Brexit seminars to help ministers understand EU cross-border market access, including the advantages of passporting.
“I have already received tributes to Giles from some of the financial services’ most senior figures, as well as from colleagues across our firm both in the UK and around the world: a testimony to Giles’ achievements and high regard.
“Giles extolled exemplary behaviours: taking a close interest in the careers and pastoral care of his team and supporting the careers of women trying to balance work with family life. He is a great loss to the firm and we will miss him enormously.
“Giles was a born and bred Cornishman. A much loved member of his local community and treasured family member.”
In commemoration, Giles’ family has requested that contributions are made to the Helford River Children’s Sailing Trust. The trust is dedicated to providing the opportunity for children in local schools to sail and kayak single-handed, discover love and respect for the sea, gain confidence for life and accelerate academic learning. Giles was a keen supporter of the charity’s work.
