KPMG has appointed Nick Roome as UK head of Legal Services with effect from May 2016.
Nick joined KPMG in the UK in 2014 to establish and lead the firm’s Legal Services business in the North. Prior to KPMG, Nick spent 15 years as a corporate lawyer in private practice law firms, including Addleshaw Goddard, before moving as a corporate partner from DLA Piper to join KPMG’s Legal Services business.
He has extensive experience in corporate law, group reorganisations, UK and cross-border M&A, private equity and joint ventures, working with large corporates, entrepreneurs, management teams, financial and private equity institutions and high net worth clients.
Nick succeeds Gary Harley who has led the successful expansion of KPMG’s Legal Services business to date. Gary was instrumental in KPMG being awarded its Alternative Business Structure (‘ABS’) licence in October 2014. Gary will continue to lead KPMG’s indirect tax practice in the UK.
Commenting on his appointment as UK head of Legal Services, Nick Roome said: “I am delighted to have been asked to carry out this role and am hugely excited about the future of our Legal Services business here in the UK. Being able to provide high quality, regulated legal services from within a multi-disciplinary environment is a relatively new concept in the UK and it is really changing the way in which lawyers can do business."
“We are experiencing a tremendous rate of growth, attracting exceptionally talented lawyers and high quality work, but there is still a massive amount that we can achieve. Future growth will come from developing current service lines and our UK footprint, as well as from building in new offerings that fit within KPMG’s clear business model and strategy to provide legal services to KPMG clients as part of integrated and multi-disciplinary solutions.”
Welcoming the appointment, Michelle Quest, UK head of Tax, Pensions and Legal Services at KPMG, said: “I am pleased to appoint Nick to lead our UK Legal Services practice. Whilst we shall continue to focus, grow and invest in all our legal service lines, we see great potential in building out our corporate and commercial business together with its adjacencies and it therefore makes sense to align our leadership talent with our most significant market opportunities. Nick is a very experienced corporate lawyer and he brings with him recent experience of being a partner in a major global law firm. He has been with KPMG for two years now and has made great progress in developing our regional legal business in that time.”
