KPMG-led NHS development programmes have been awarded Gold in this year’s EFMD Excellence in Practice Awards.
EFMD is the largest international network association in the field of management development and includes over 800 institutional members from academia, business, public service and consultancy across 80 countries worldwide. Its Excellence in Practice Awards recognise outstanding case studies describing an effective and impactful leadership and development intervention between partner organisations.
Through the NHS Leadership Academy, KPMG led the consortium of consultants, UK and International academics, and technology and design experts, to successfully co-design and co-deliver a suite of the largest healthcare professional leadership development programmes in the NHS. These programmes are transforming the working culture of the NHS helping talented individuals progress through the organisation by equipping them with the skills they need to support their patients and their teams.
These courses include the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson programme, which is for mid-level leaders aspiring to a senior role, and the Nye Bevan programme, which helps senior leaders prepare for executive and Board level roles. These programmes have already seen over 3,000 NHS staff take part.
Across both programmes the consortium has created an innovative learning experience, combining virtual and residential study. This includes a bespoke ‘virtual campus’ and interactive case studies based on real patient cases, to create a learning environment that directly addresses everyday NHS leadership challenges.
Louise Scott-Worrall, Director of Learning Solutions at KPMG, said: “It is a great privilege to win the Gold award. In the UK, the NHS faces ever higher public requirements for services, combined with a need to make efficiency savings. We responded to this need by building a consortium of partners with shared values and vision and concentrating on developing strong and inspiring leaders who are deeply connected to their patients, teams and communities – equipping them to build a culture of purpose, innovation and compassion at every level. This award is recognition that we are achieving our ambitions and aspirations.”
