Stephen Dorrell MP will take up a role as senior adviser with KPMG UK’s Healthcare and Public Sector practice, on a part-time basis, from 1st December. In addition to working within the UK, Stephen will also support KPMG’s global Healthcare & Life Sciences and Infrastructure & Government practices. He will work with KPMG partners and their teams advising governments, public and private sector clients across the 156 countries in the KPMG network and contribute substantially to public policy discussions, provocations and publications.
Stephen has been an MP for 35 years and has extensive experience as a former Secretary of State for Health, Secretary of State for National Heritage, and Financial Secretary to HM Treasury. He was, most recently, the first elected Chair of the House of Commons Health Committee from 2010 until he stepped down in June 2014.
Andrew Hine, UK Head of Healthcare and Public Sector at KPMG, commented: “The next decade will see immense change in the public sector and the NHS as services change to meet new and rising demand, while funding remains constrained and devolution fuels innovation. Stephen’s experience and thinking in this area is exceptional. He is widely admired as an original and independent thinker who garners support across the political spectrum. His knowledge and expertise will be a huge help to our clients as they seek to address their greatest challenges and opportunities.”
Mark Britnell, Global Chairman of Healthcare at KPMG, added: “I have worked with Stephen over the past twenty years and know how widely he is respected. As Chair of the Health Select Committee, he has seen the good, bad and ugly and this can only benefit our clients.”
Commenting on his appointment, Stephen Dorrell said: “I am delighted to have this opportunity to work with KPMG. The firm has built a global Healthcare and Public Sector practice which is widely respected and which is well placed to support the changes which are necessary if our public services are to meet the challenges they face. I have spent most of the last 25 years as an advocate of public service reform; I relish the opportunity to work with KPMG and its clients to take this essential reform process forward for the benefit of NHS patients and other service-users.”
