“There is no doubt that we all need to do more to provide entry routes into the profession for a wider range of talented young people. Businesses have a duty to work with the young to nurture and get them ready for employment; otherwise as a nation we face having a lost generation that lack the skills to progress.
“From our experience, new recruits overwhelming prioritise job security, having had to work hard to secure their first job or a graduate placement. However priorities shift after the first year of employment; as workers acquire the skills, experience, confidence, and most importantly the business acumen that is needed for the jobs market. Therefore, training together with work experience is vital to give confidence to school and university leavers to help them successfully enter the workforce.”
