KPMG has appointed a global Islamic finance leadership team to support the continued growth and development of KPMG’s international Islamic finance practice. The team comprises senior Islamic finance practitioners from across KPMG’s global network of member firms, and is led by Samer Hijazi in the UK.
Jeremy Anderson, Global Head of Financial Services at KPMG commented: “Islamic finance and its principles of fair dealing are becoming more and more globalised. This leadership team will leverage KPMG’s insights and expertise in Islamic finance to give our clients access to an outstanding depth and breadth of knowledge wherever in the world they need it.”
Samer Hijazi commented: “The recent announcement that Britain intends to be the first sovereign state outside the Islamic world to issue an Islamic bond is a huge breakthrough for Islamic finance. As Islamic finance continues to grow at a faster rate than traditional banking around the world, it is a very exciting time to be working in this sector as many mainstream financial institutions look to enter this market.”
The team comprises Samer Hijazi in the UK, Muhammad Tariq in the UAE and Oman, Mahesh Balasubramanian in Bahrain, Kashif Jahangiri in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, Ahmad Nasri Abdul Wahab in Malaysia, Ahmed Jaffer in South Africa and Omar Mahmood in Qatar.
KPMG already has an award winning Islamic finance offering, with teams providing audit, tax and advisory services to clients around the world. The new leadership team will drive KPMG’s market activity and ensure the increasingly sophisticated and global needs of clients in the Islamic finance industry are met.
