Prepare for the future of tax as business goes digital.
Over 250 people joined us to learn how digital will define the future of business and its impact on tax. We explored a positive future where digital helps improve worldwide prosperity, where digitisation helps address the tax gap and transforms the role of the tax department.
How can tax solve the plastic pollution crisis? When will we burn our increasingly worthless and little used paper currencies? Why come digitalisation delivers a solution to the tax collection gap but a new set of problems for ‘fair’ tax policy? Oh - and who else out there doesn't understand how blockchain really works….
These were just a few of the fascinating issues and ideas explored at KPMG’s 'Rethinking tax: Building tax’s digital future event' attended by over 250 clients and wowed by two fabulous keynote speakers in Eleanor Winton - founder of Foresightfully, and Dr Pippa Malmgren - former advisor to Ronald Reagan on Economic Policy.
Hosted by Melissa Geiger and Chris Downing, we explored how digital will transform the role of the tax department in the future and how digital requires clients to radically rethink their tax strategy as business models are digitised. Joining Melissa and Chris on the main stage, Eleanor Winton explored how tax would have a critical role to play to help us address key challenges, from plastic pollution to poverty – and our key note presentation from Dr Pippa Malmgren, who has advised US Presidents and the UK Government on economic policy, presented a radical vision of a data-driven future which would dramatically improve prosperity for all, but raise fundamental questions on how the benefits of new technology are shared between governments, corporations and citizens.
This followed an insightful panel session hosted by Michelle Quest, including Manal Corwin from KPMG in the US, John Peterson from the OECD and Ian Brimicombe from Burberry.
Teams from across tax also shared their expertise in a series of breakout sessions, and a technology showcase for new our tax analytics tools.
You can watch our short highlights video and we have summarised key themes from each session below.
