Zero-hour contract workers should get a higher rate of pay for unplanned work, have the right to request guaranteed weekly hours and the possibility to spread their income over the year.
Sometimes an idea is so good that two people may have it at the same time. Iain Gravestock’s paper and Matthew Taylor’s review of zero-hours pay drawn similar conclusions. They both want to give workers on such contracts a higher rate of pay for any unplanned work – as well as the right to request guaranteed weekly hours.
