Implementing KPMG Performance View with a new ERP system is bringing faster, more accurate insights to Britain's oldest wine and spirits merchant.
Berry Bros. & Rudd is Britain’s oldest wine and spirits merchant. Located on London’s St James’s Street since 1698, it has premises across the world and a thriving online business. Although hundreds of years old, the company prides itself on embracing change.
So it was in this spirit of development that the company contacted KPMG with a brief to help introduce new efficiencies to its management reporting systems.
"Over the past two years the business has undergone quite a rapid transformation as we stabilise it and build towards strong and sustainable growth,” says the company’s CFO Chris Robinson.
Quicker, better decisions
As part of the development process, the finance team introduced a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. However, they also wanted something that would work with that system and help sharpen decision-making across the organisation.
“A lot of the reporting told a story that maybe people were hoping to tell – whereas our role is to be as objective and transparent as we can be,” says Robinson. “ KPMG Performance View gives us instant recall on standing data and allows us to gain insights flexibly and intuitively. It gives us a great step forward and we’ll be able to analyse many things that were previously quite opaque."
But not only did KPMG Performance View reconcile and merge data, it also saw, “KPMG plumbing it all together for us in the background,” adds Robinson. “The team’s expertise was critical in moving things forward. It helped us shortcut some of the work we’re doing on the ERP implementation, and get ahead.”
Fast work and happier staff
As well as speeding up ERP implementation, the new systems have resulted in a more efficient and happier team which is able to access information more easily and quickly.
By updating what had become an all-too vintage reporting system, Berry Bros. & Rudd will be able to bring its customers many more of the right vintages for years to come.
