Identifying fraud trends in the first half of 2015.

Our latest results from the KPMG Fraud Barometer have just been published. The bi-annual Barometer identifies the latest fraud trends and patterns affecting the UK economy which helps businesses remain alert to new threats and respond to any fraud risks in an appropriate and proactive manner.

Our Fraud Barometer found that the total cost (£385 million) of fraudulent activity in the UK has increased 22% in the first half of 2015, compared to the same period last year, whilst the number of fraud cases has remained constant.

Key highlights:

  • Family fraud increases as Britain's elderly preyed on by younger relatives
  • Supply chain fraud increases, as middle men pass themselves or their products off as genuine, whilst victims are often unaware that they have been tricked by an imposter
  • White collar crime surges as those in positions of responsibility or management abuse their power to commit frauds totalling £262m
