Technology failures, data losses and other IT incidents are increasingly in the news. How does one filter through the noise? In this second edition of the Technology Risk Radar, KPMG presents the findings from an analysis of more than 10,000 news articles related to IT incidents from around the world, over a 12 month period starting from September 2013. Further, this year’s report includes a forward-looking perspective on some of the top risks facing each industry and practical tips on what organisations can do to help address some of these risks.

Highlights from the report include:

  • Price tag of an IT incident – system outages and quality issues can be just as costly as data breaches
  • “Avoidable” causes led to more than half of the incidents
  • Cyber security-related incidents accounted for less than half of the total number of incidents
  • Looking forward – top ten risks by industry and why
    • Financial services
    • Coming soon: Other industries
  • How to build the capability to respond to the evolving technology risk landscape
