A joint report released by KPMG and Markit shows for the first time the impact of the UK technology sector on macroeconomic performance.
We are seeing an increasing use of consumer technology in our daily lives – slowly the UK tech sector is beginning to get the profile and attention it needs. It is against this backdrop of growing recognition that we have commissioned this report, the first of what we see as an ongoing series.
Tech Monitor UK features for the first time the Tech Sector Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI), a new method for tracking job creation and economic growth at UK technology companies. The report provides an in-depth geographical snapshot of the UK tech sector employment patterns for the first time
The first instalment reveals a number of key findings; perhaps unsurprisingly, the ten local authorities with the highest amount of tech workers are all in South East England. They are all close to either the M4, M3 or M25 motorways.
Importantly, the report finds that the tech sector has generated jobs over the last four years and has consistently outpaced other UK private sectors in creating jobs since the global financial crisis.
We would welcome the opportunity to discuss the results with you. Please feel free to contact me directly or feed comments back through our mailbox.
