Richard joined KPMG in Sheffield in 1980 and spent two years on secondment in the USA, before moving to Leeds in 1990, where he further developed his specialisation in retail financial services, including a two year secondment to the Building Societies Commission in 1993. He returned to KPMG in Leeds as a Financial Services Partner and now leads KPMG’s Regional Financial Services Practice and the national Financial Services Internal Audit practice. He also leads KPMG’s national building society and wider mutual practices and maintains close links with the regulator as part of his regulatory work in the sector. Linked to this, he chairs the BSA’s Annual Audit and Accounting Update Conference. His audit clients include Alchemy, OneSavings Bank, Arbuthnot Banking Group, National Counties Building Society, AJ Bell Group and a number of private equity financial services companies and smaller building societies. Past audit clients include a wide range of building societies, from Yorkshire to Ecology, M&S Bank and some of the largest retail banks, including HBOS Retail and Bradford & Bingley. Internal Audit clients include a number of building and friendly societies, including Yorkshire, Saffron, Darlington and Chorley, Police Mutual Assurance Society and Civil Service Healthcare.
