Oleksandr Rudenko presented KPMG in Ukraine during the conference "Legal Aspects of Cryptology in Ukraine"

On November 24, 2017, Oleksandr Rudenko, Senior Legal Consultant, KPMG in Ukraine, delivered a presentation, "Cryptocurrency from a perspective of judicial practices" at the conference "Legal aspects of cryptocurrency in Ukraine."

The conference was organized by the Supreme Administrative Court of Ukraine, the All-Ukrainian Association of Administrative Judges, the Association of Tax Advisers, the Ukrainian Bar Association, the National School of Judges of Ukraine and the Taxlink platform.

Oleksandr Rudenko analyzed cases from foreign practices of determining the status of cryptocurrency, and judicial practices of the United States, Russia and Ukraine related to the circulation and taxation of cryptocurrencies. In particular, he focused on two major trends in judicial practices related to cryptocurrencies, liberal and conservative, triggered by the developments in the cryprocurrency markets that affect the legislative and regulatory activities of authorized agencies in foreign jurisdictions.

"First of all, I would like to thank the Supreme Administrative Court for the high level of organization of the forum for discussing such a vital topic, which today requires detailed study and analysis. In the absence of shaped-up regulatory control over the relevant sphere, the existing judicial practices in Ukraine are in the formative stage, thus being very susceptible to rapid development of crypto technology and cryptocurrency circulation on the market. Despite this, the emerging judicial concepts and insights provide a basis for development of future approaches to underlie legislative and statutory acts regulating the cryptocurrency’s status in Ukraine," Alexander Rudenko noted.

The event was also attended by Sergey Popov, Partner, Head of Tax and Legal department KPMG in Ukraine.
