Ian leads the Deal Advisory team across Thailand, Laos and Myanmar, helping clients buy, sell, raise funds and restructure. Ian has provided financial and commercial due diligence and valuation advice on a number of transactions in South East Asia, for a variety of corporate, private equity and banking clients. Ian’s experience includes working on a variety of complex and distressed situations, on both a buy-side and sell-side, for various industries.

Background

  • Ian leads the Deal Advisory group of KPMG Thailand, Myanmar and Laos, focusing on Transaction Services, Corporate Finance and Restructuring. Ian has a wealth of experience, having advised on over 300 M&A transactions globally.
  • Ian joined KPMG Thailand in 2009, and focusses on advising local and international clients on both inbound and global outbound acquisitions. He is often invited to speak at events on mergers and acquisitions in Thailand and Myanmar.
  • Ian qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2003 with another big 4 firm in the UK, gaining audit experience in the retail and industrial markets sectors.  He then spent three years as Financial Controller for the financing arm of Porsche Cars in the UK, which managed a loan portfolio in excess of GBP 400 million, before joining KPMG Deal Advisory in 2006.

  • Extensive experience advising on transactions in both developed and emerging markets. During three years in KPMG’s UK Transaction Services team he worked on a number of buy-side and sell-side transactions including cross-border deals from the UK into Europe and Asia.

  • Since moving to KPMG’s Bangkok office, he has over nine years’ experience advising multinationals on inbound investments into Thailand, and has recently led a number of market-entry projects into Myanmar.

  • He has also advised on a number of major outbound acquisitions made by Thai companies with deal values exceeding USD15bn.

  • Ian has worked on a number of distressed situations, both on the buy-side and sell-side, including leading the successful carve-out of a distressed real estate business in Bangkok, and working with a number of private equity and bank clients that specialize in distressed asset management.
