Yew Kwong advises clients on an array of local tax issues as a Principal Advisor at KPMG in Singapore’s tax team.

Prior to joining KPMG, he worked as a tax lawyer spending 6 years at WongPartnership LLP. He previously served as Chief Legal Officer and Chief Valuer at the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore.  In his role as Chief Legal Officer, he oversaw the legal aspects of taxes administered by the statutory board.

Yew Kwong has litigated numerous landmark tax cases before the Court of Appeal, the High Court and the Board of Review. These include cases like ACC v Comptroller of Income Tax, ZF v Comptroller of Income Tax, Clifford Development Pte Ltd v Commissioner of Stamp Duties and Chief Assessor v First DCS Pte Ltd.

He has also published several books. Some titles he has authored or co-authored include Real Estate and Taxation in Singapore (World Scientific, 2022), Property Tax in Singapore (Third edition, LexisNexis, 2015), Stamp Duties Act – LexisNexis Annotated Statutes of Singapore (Electronic edition, 2022), Butterworths Annotated Statutes of Singapore – Revenue Law (2000) and Development Land and Development Charge in Singapore (Butterworths, 1987).
