Prior to KPMG, Hwee Leng was with the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) as a senior tax officer for 15 years. She was involved in tax policy matters on GST, corporate tax, advance income tax ruling, international taxation, transfer pricing and tax treaties. She was also part of GST implementation team in IRAS, including the drafting of the various circulars on the operation of GST, GST laws, schemes for businesses and marketing of GST to the public and businesses. After that, she was involved in the audit of GST-registered businesses, setting of GST policy, fine-tuning the GST system and overseeing amendments of GST laws, implementation of rate-increase in Singapore and training on GST. Hwee Leng also spent 9 years as a business adviser assisting businesses in responding to audit queries from IRAS, in seeking tax rulings and in advising businesses of their GST process controls in connection with the Assisted Compliance Assurance Programme launched by the IRAS and assisting businesses with Assisted Self-help Kit (“ASK”). In 2015, Hwee Leng was recognised as one of the leading tax practitioners and leading women tax practitioners by the International Tax Review, published in the Indirect Tax Leaders Guide.
